Whether it’s Free Hugs or any other thing that Malaysians (or people anywhere else) want to adopt or even introduce something new for that matter, local culture and custom must be taken into account.

Edward Said scrutinize and broke down this point remarkably well in his magnificent book Orientalism.

That said, I think Free Hugs is brilliant.
